Fylde  Independents

Working for you - not for a political party

Peter Savic - Ashton Ward

Peter Savic – Ashton Ward Candidate
Pater Savic
I stand as an Independent because I believe that national party politics have no place in local government.

If elected I would campaign for the following  changes:

Get rid of the Cabinet System so that the  opinions of residents are represented at  Council Meetings.

Ensure portfolio holders disclose all relevant facts and promote full discussion in committee meetings with no decisions behind closed doors, except where there is a genuine need for confidentiality.

Make sure that Fylde B C provide an efficient, cost effective street cleaning and waste collection and recycling service. Investigate the possibility of reopening the closed local depot as a recycling centre.

Promote greater use of the Pool and Sports Centre with special rates for residents.

Review all arms length companies controlled by the council and ensure that they are run for the benefit of the residents and that all information is made available to the public where possible.

Review the St Annes shopping areas and develop a plan to encourage business investment in the area.

Start a windblown sand reduction program to include reduction of oversize dunes and blocking of blow outs to prevent the problem at source whilst ensuring flood defences are maintained.

Ensure that Parks and Open Spaces are properly maintained without creating a financial burden for local town and parish councils.

Ensure there is adequate police presence to deter anti social behaviour and crime so that residents feel safe.

Reduce reliance on external consultants. Too often the views of residents have been overlooked in favour of external consultants who cost a fortune but have no local knowledge.

Watch the pennies and prioritise spending. It is too easy to spend other people’s money. Whether by raising taxes or borrowing money the burden on the tax payer continually grows. If there has to be extra expense then it needs to be affordable and worthwhile. I would not waste money on glossy newsletters or new offices for councillors, but I would spend money to help important local organisations.

I have lived in Ashton ward for many years and understand the concerns of residents.

Background

I was born in Oldham and attended the local Grammar School. On leaving in 1978 I studied electrical engineering and took up an apprenticeship with Ferranti Electronics.  I later formed a company providing telecommunication services to businesses.

In 2000 I returned to education part time, studying at Manchester Business School for an MBA, whilst still working full time in the family telecommunication business. The skills learned have helped me to understand the functioning and finance of public sector organisations.

My interests have included voluntary work with the Air Cadets, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and brass bands. I can sometimes  be seen flying a kite on the beach and I have recently taken up ice skating at the encouragement of my granddaughter.

Since moving to Fylde with my wife Susan I have found that there is much to do and it is a great place to live. I still work full time in the business and I keep up to date with the latest business trends.

Campaigns I have been involved in locally include:

Save North Beach Car Park
Organised public meeting, met with councillors and council officers and spoke at cabinet, committee and parish meetings to oppose closure.

Save the St Annes Baths
Marched in support of the Baths being kept open and spoke at cabinet, committee and parish meetings to oppose closure.

Heeley Road Development
Spoke at Committee Meeting, submitted written questions of the council, submitted representation opposing planning application.

Dunes and Beach Management Plans
Submitted written questions to Council, Spoke at Cabinet and committee meetings and met with council officers and councillors

Development of the Town Hall
Submitted written questions to Council, Spoke at Cabinet and committee meetings and submitted representation opposing planning application.

Parking Restrictions
I have opposed tougher parking restrictions and the increase in charges. They stop people visiting our town and have a negative affect on the local economy. Parking costs are strangling our town.

I believe in listening to all arguments before making a decision and that the Voice of the People should be heard in Your Local Council.
People must always come before politics!
