My name is Maxine Chew and I have lived in this area all my life. My husband John and I attended Singleton School, as did our children Richard and Rebecca. John and I live and run a business on Mains Lane so we appreciate how residents who live on or near the A585 suffer the problems caused by the traffic.
We have over the years been involved with many local groups and organisations including Singleton School where John is a governor, Singleton Clogger’s and been involved with past Gala days. A couple of years ago I started the Singleton History Group who have done in depth research into the Miller family and Singleton’s past. Our next project is to begin a conservation appraisal of Singleton and Thistleton villages.
In 2003 I wrote the first Singleton Parish Council newsletter, a job I still have pleasure doing. Working with a Singleton resident I obtained grants for the improvement work in Puzzle Wood. In the past twelve months I have applied for and gained grant funding towards closing the Lodge Lane lay-by and most recently, a grant to install lighting in the village hall car park.
I attend the monthly Greenhalgh with Thistleton Parish Council where I support the members as much as possible and act as liaison between the parish councils, the borough council and the County Council. For the last 12 years I have been a member of Singleton Parish Council. Parish Councils are the grass roots of democracy and “localism” at its best. Working together with Parish Council members has achieved many improvements to the community to enhance the quality of life for our residents. We make a good team!!
At Fylde Borough Council I sit on the Community Overview and Scrutiny Committee and Development Control committee. I also act as a substitute on other committees. Experience on these committees helps me fulfil my passion for fighting to gain the best for this ward. I attend PACT meetings and represent the ward on the Parish Liaison Committee.
As an Independent candidate I offer enthusiasm, dedication and energy to work as your representative on Fylde Borough Council without being stifled by party politics. I could not and would not, ever answer to a party whip. To gain seats on committees the Independents on Fylde Borough Council joined together to form a group who respect and support each other. We are not a political group and never ask any member to vote in a particular way. There is no group whip and no pressure on any member to vote in any way they are uncomfortable with. We are free to vote to gain the best for our residents. Independents are not politically motivated and self serving, they only want to represent you!
I am always available to help with any problems or issues you may have or, if you just want to air your views on local matters I am here to listen. Contact me on 01253 884548 |
