Working For Kirkham, Not A Party Machine
Liz Oades - Kirkham South Ward

Liz Oades - Kirkham South WardMy name is Elizabeth Oades, I am married to Chris and have two daughters, now grown up, Louise who works in London as a lawyer and Kate who works in H.R. for Bolton Metropolitan Council.

I have been a Kirkham Town Councillor for nearly 24 years, a Fylde Borough Councillor  for 20 years and a Lancashire County Councillor for the past 6 years.  I have had the honour of being the Mayor of Fylde for the year 2010/2011

  • Chairman of the Borough’s Environmental Health Committee
  • Member of the Borough’s Executive Committee
  • Member of two Overview and Scrutiny Committees and the Audit Committee at Fylde
  • Chairman of the Market Town Initiative
  • Member of the Cabinet Committee on Climate Change and Environment at Lancashire County Council
  • Member of the Regulatory Committee and the Sustainable Development O & S Committees at Lancashire County Council
  • Primary School Governor for 20 years.

I represent a large area of the Fylde which includes the urban areas of Kirkham and Wesham, the semi rural areas of Newton and Clifton and the very rural areas of Treales, Roseacre, Wharles and Salwick and feel very fortunate to live in a lovely part of Lancashire which has the coastal areas of Lytham St.Annes and the beautiful Fylde countryside which I enjoy visiting.  The sheer variety of issues I encounter as a councillor make life very interesting and colourful.

I am an Independent councillor because I have never wanted to be part of a political party machine, I believe passionately that councillors are elected to speak and vote on local issues in the best interests of local people.  At Fylde we have a large Independent group which is mainly made up of rural councillors but at the last election we gained several seats in the urban areas, we were a hung council until 2003 and formed the administration, but the Conservative Party are presently in control with a small majority.  Our group intend to work hard over the next 4 years to regain control of the Council.
